Downtown St. Joe MO

Proud of its past and building toward its future. Downtown Saint Joseph is a historic Missouri district with something for everyone: an emerging arts scene, locally owned restaurants, live music, shopping, and the events that bring it all together, in one walkable place.

Overview

Downtown Saint Joseph is the historic heart of my own backyard in northwest Missouri, and this one was Midcoast Collective’s through and through. Midcoast is my own studio, this was our client directly, and I owned every part of the work: strategy, design, development, and copywriting.

The problem was fragmentation. Downtown’s story was scattered across separate organizations and sites, with no single place to find what was happening or who was open for business. I built this to be that hub. The centerpiece is a business directory with more than 250 listings, filterable by category and plotted on a Google map, where owners can update their own listing without routing every change through the Downtown Association. Running alongside it is an events calendar that has showcased over 700 downtown events, plus a set of microsites living under the same roof for the Downtown Association, the Community Improvement District, and other downtown groups.

  • End-to-End Ownership
This was the rare project I carried from blank page to launch by myself, owning the strategy, the design, the build, and the words on every page.
  • Self-Service Business Directory
A directory of 250+ downtown businesses, filterable by category and plotted on a Google map, with a list-or-map toggle. Owners can edit their own listing directly instead of going through the Downtown Association.
  • Robust Events Calendar
A searchable, exportable events calendar with masonry, list, and month views that has carried more than 700 downtown events to date.
  • Microsites Under One Roof
Several downtown organizations live inside the same site, including dedicated microsites for the Downtown Association and the Community Improvement District, so the whole district stays in one place.
