Crown Center is one of Kansas City’s landmark destinations, a mixed-use complex packed with shops, restaurants, live theater, family attractions, two hotels, offices, and apartments, all in one place near downtown. This was an MMGY Global project, and I was the solo front-end developer on a Drupal build.
The part I’m proudest of was the interactive mall map. We wanted every store plotted on a Google map, but Crown Center has four levels, and Google Maps had no support for multilevel indoor floors. So we built our own: a custom layout for each of the four floors, overlaid precisely on top of the Google map, with a toggle to switch between them. Visitors can pan, zoom, and move from floor to floor, with every shop pinned to the right level. Around that sits the rest of a property this size, including a searchable store and restaurant directory, an attractions and theaters hub, an events calendar for Crown Center Square, and the practical details for hours, parking, and directions.
